Dr. Emmanuel Esaba Akpo is a consultant General and Laparoscopic/Endoscopic Surgeon, a fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Surgeons of Nigeria (FMCS) and a fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) (USA).

He hails from Irri in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State. Nigeria. Following completion of His primary and secondary education in Delta State, he proceeded to the University of Jos (Plateau State) Nigeria, where he obtained his MD degree in 1992. He immediately proceeded to obtain his postgraduate fellowship degree in general surgery certified by the board of examiners of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in May 2003. He was judged the best resident doctor in 2002. He has served in different capacities as a consultant and a lecturer in Surgery training medical students, residents, doctors and other health care providers in various hospitals in Nigeria and Sierra Leone. In March 2009 he obtained a post-doctoral Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery from the TGO University and Laparoscopy Hospital, New Delhi. India awarded by the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (WALS) making him the first University trained Minimal Access Surgeon in the Niger-Delta Region.

Currently, he is:

2. A Faculty Board Member of the Delta State University, Abraka. Delta State. Nigeria.
3. The Head, Minimal Access Surgery, Delta State University Teaching Hospital,Oghara. Delta State. Nigeria.
4. The Head, Minimal Access Surgery, Peerless Hospital and Wellness, Warri. Delta State. Nigeria.
5. The Head of Surgery, Delta State Rural Health Scheme. Ministry of Health. Asaba. Delta State. Nigeria.
6. The Executive Director, Global Medical Missions.

Among other membership, he is:

1. A life member of the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (WALS).
2. A member of the European Association for Transluminal Surgery (EATS).
3. A member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).
4. Member, International College of Surgeons (USA).
5. Member, National Postgraduate Medical College (Nigeria).

His current areas of interest are telemedicine, informatics and advancing the course of Minimal Access Surgery.
